Tokyo, Japan (October 8, 2014) – Square Enix Co., Ltd. (the “Company”) today announces that the Company brought a declaratory judgment suit against SNK Playmore Corporation (the “Defendant”) at the Osaka District Court.
The Defendant brought a criminal complaint against the Company and its publication division personnel, claiming that the comic series “HIGH SCORE GIRL” published by the Company allegedly infringed the Defendant’s copyright. As a result, the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters and the Sonezaki Police Station conducted a domiciliary search at the Company’s headquarters office on August 5, 2014.
Getting accused of the criminal complaint, the Company has decided to bring the said lawsuit to seek a declaratory judgment that the Company does not infringe the Defendant’s copyright. The Company will prove the point through civil procedures.
The Company has been cooperating fully with police investigations since the domiciliary search, and will continuously maintain the cooperative stance with good faith.
